President's Weekly Radio Address
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. In times of war, Congress has no greater obligation than funding our war fighters. And next week, the House will begin debate on an emergency war spending bill.

Democrats Want us to Lose this War
Democrats in Washington are trying to micro-manage the War on Terror. Have they learned nothing from the Vietnam War? We won every military engagement during that conflict because our forces performed brilliantly but politicians here at home tied the hands of our troops and ensured our defeat. Now, some of the same politicians are following that template for this war. Congressman Jack Murtha recently proposed a “slow bleed” plan to deny resources to our military with an eventual retreat out of Iraq. Democrats like Murtha say they support the troops but apparently have no problem diminishing the resources they need to win this war. Other Democrats like Dave Obey want to set conditions in return for military funding.
Military planners set strategies and then develop tactics to achieve objectives but they must be constantly adjusted on the ever-changing battlefield. This is why our Founding Fathers mandated that the President would also act as Commander in Chief. To bog down our war related decision making within the halls of Congress is a recipe for defeat. War fighting requires immediate decision making on the battlefield or through a strict chain of command. Imagine the danger our troops will be in if commanders on the field are forced to wait months for congressmen to hold committee meetings and eventually vote on decisions. It would be a disaster for our military and our nation would lose this war. But perhaps that is what the Democrats want.
